Is a Glass Backsplash Safe Behind a Stove?
The wall behind the stove takes the most heat, grease and splashes in the kitchen, so it is natural to ask whether glass belongs there. The short answer is yes, as long as it is tempered glass and it is installed with the clearances your cooktop needs.
Why tempered glass?
Tempered glass is heat-treated during manufacturing. That makes it heat-resistant and much stronger than regular glass, and if it ever does break it breaks into small blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. All of our backsplash panels are tempered glass.
Gas and electric cooktops
Every cooktop's installation manual lists the clearances it needs to the wall and to the cabinets above. Those clearances still apply with a glass backsplash. Keep the panel within them and do not let an open flame touch the glass directly.
Where the print is
Our designs are UV-printed on the back of the glass, so the side that faces the stove is plain glass. Splashes and grease land on smooth glass and wipe off, and the print is not touched when you clean.
Installing behind a stove
- Measure the space carefully with our measuring guide. Tempered glass cannot be cut after it is made.
- Choose a mounting option that suits your wall: tape, silicone, tape plus silicone or screws. See the installation guide.
- Clean the wall well first. Grease left on the wall weakens tape and silicone.
Everyday care
Let the panel cool after cooking, then wipe it with a soft cloth and glass cleaner. Avoid scouring pads and metal scrapers, which can scratch any glass surface.
